Well worth the price...

Reviewer: Confounded Consumer,
I've been a fan of Bluetooth headsets since they've arrived. Not having to worry about a draw-pull or gear-shift yanking my headset out is reason enough to make the switch from corded.

I have owned Jabra, Motorola, and until now only corded Plantronics. The Plantronics Discovery 655 is the first Bluetooth headset that meets all the criteria I've added over the years for a fantastic headset:
- Has to be frivolous and "vanish" on/in your ear... You shouldn't know it's there until a call comes in. =The 655 sits perfectly on my ear with just the gel earpiece. For those wanting/needing the extra assurance that it won't factually vanish, an ear-loop is built-in.
- Must have just the vital buttons. Volume, and on/off, are the only rudiments for a headset. Whatever thing else is a frill I'd rather not pay for or have to worry about. =The 655 keeps it simple.
- My transmitted voice must sound like a corded land-line on the other end. =My callers are suprised I'm on a wireless headset.
- Greeting must be crystal. =It certainly is.
- Must use standard USB charging. =The 655 gives you an option of proprietary outlet charging, battery, or USB charging. This is not "too many charging parts" as someone mentioned... rather Plantronics offers a multitude of charging options. Only one is vital at a time -- your choice.
- It must hold a charge. =The 655 doesn't quite last as long as my Jabra, I don't know due to the DSP functionality (which uses power), but, there is a power-save mode to extend uptime if necessary, as well as an built-in emergency battery option for a quick charge, if no other options are available (such as no laptop or no outlet).
- Price must be right. =If the 655 was more than $70, I would have paid it.

Bottom line, it's well worth the price, and then some. I am continually looking for newer/better technology to simplify my life. The 655 does that... (until I find a touch better).
655 DSP works well with Cingular 8525

In light of several of the reviews, I was somewhat concerned about the 655, but chose to hold it anyway. The 655 DSP that I received was either redesigned or some reviewers were describing a different model. The device I received fits very steadily in its charger case; it lights up and vibrates to indicate a proper fit. I had no problem keeping the device in its charger. The device was very comfortable to wear, and did indeed stay steadily in my ear when moving about (without the ear loop attachment, which I have not tried). Some reviewers complained about the USB adapter. I had no problem with it; it snaps into the charger base, and does not fall out. The device needed to be charged (this was expected and it took about 3 hours, in line with the manual instuctions). The device paired effortlessly with my Cingular 8525 (the process took less than a minute). Call quality was quite excellent (although I only used it from my car and my office (silent locations), greeting was clear and sufficiently loud in both directions. There is a very slight delay (1 second or so) between incoming calls being received by my handset and the call being relayed to the device. In practice, I could not answer the phone quick enough to beat the device's receipt of the relayed signal. Frankly, the 655 DSP worked better than I had expected, and I very much urge it.
Plantronics 655 DSP Headset is state-of-the-art

I use my phone constantly while pouring AND have a moderate high frequency examination loss. The 655 DSP is exact for both. It works seamlessly as it is advertised to do. It fits my ear without the wire hook and stays all day. It is so light I perfectly forget I have it in. The earmold design is very efficient in delivering sound to the audio canal. I ordinarily push it in as I recieve a call but that is not really necessary. The sound quality it delivers is VERY Excellent. I know as well as with my $1800 examination aid (that I remove in favor of the 655 DSP). Battery charge life is brilliant. The controls work just fine (I had to get used to them). I totall urge this unit. It surpasses the other 2 units I have used by around 250% or more.
brilliant in every way

Using this headset with my Nokia 6126, the other party hears my voice just as visibly as when I speak frankly into my phone. They can't tell any variation and I can hear the other party, even better. There's no static, hissing or perky as long as the phone is within a couple of feet of the headset and mostly unobstructed (desk or shirt pocket: excellent, pants pocket: not so excellent).

The gel earpiece is comfortable and snug. Sometimes I don't even use the removable ear hook (unless I'm moving around a lot).

All the charging options (AC adapter, USB power, or AA battery sleeve) are fantastic but I naturally just keep my headset in the AC adapter sleeve when not in use. I spoke with Plantronics tech help and they said it was OK to do that because there's an automatic shutoff feature that prevents over-charging. Tech help spoke English as a fundamental language (at least the person I spoke with). They were forthcoming, knowledgeable, and didn't keep me coming up.

I don't write many reviews but this manufactured goods is exceptional. I highly urge it.
Frivolous Wonder

I've been coming up to hold a bluetooth headset for a while, and I irrevocably "bit". I have had no tribulations, and it is functioning just so as expected!
Paired with Moto Razr V3, first try, no tribulations.
Sound is excellent, louder than the (dreadful) speakerphone, even when the window is down in the car. Voice dialing is no worse than without the headset (unreliable), more a problem with motorola's speech recognition than the headset.
Fit is excellent and VERY comfortable (I wear glasses), I barely notice it in my ear. Stability in the ear is excellent without the earloop.
Range seems to be as expected (I got 42' in a parking lot), but I did not test it at my home [where even WiFi 802.11h gets only 30' :( ].
Like the mini-usb charging adapter, only have to keep one charger in my car. All of life should be so simple.
By and large, a strong urge!
